The privilege of
parenthood brings with it the responsibility of
planning for the future of our children. Difficult
decisions must often be made, with the only
guideline being the fact that whatever choices we
make our children deserve only the best. At home we
ensure that the values we instill equip them for the
future. It is, however, the time they spend with
others - educators and friends - that concern us
most, for they are beyond our control.
This is why the choice of a place of learning is
possibly the most important decision any parent
could make, as this decision will ultimately affect
a learner's opportunity to succeed in life.
At Parklands College we offer complete peace of
mind, not only preparing the child academically, but
also emotionally, by promoting positive feelings of
worth, in preparation for life's challenges.
We appreciate the time you are taking to investigate
what we have to offer and hope that our website will
prove informative and provide answers to the many
questions you may have regarding our educational
policy.
We hope that we will be able to share, with you, our
vision for "life long learning" and our programme of
academic excellence.
The College exists to
provide excellence in all facets of learning,
ensuring outstanding teaching, professionalism and
classroom innovation, in order to attain a
commendable level of scholarship and academic
achievement.
The curriculum structure and activities reflect our
belief that each learners intellectual, aesthetic,
physical, moral and social growth is best developed
in an environment characterised by a balance between
academic challenges and enriching cultural and
social opportunities, by an appreciation of ones own
culture and others, and by genuine concern and
welfare of every person. We promote positive
feelings of worth in preparation for lifes
challenges while striving to realise potential,
nurture talent and ability, focusing on the needs of
the individual, the gifted and the less able. We
support and enrich development by establishing a
love of learning through experiences that enhance
creativity, promote discovery and increase
responsibility, as they grow older. Academic and
personal guidance, close learner-faculty
relationships, and a careful blending of structure
with personal freedom, promote an overall
environment for personal excellence.
Within an environment, characterised by high
expectations and respect for excellence in all
areas, learners prepare for their futures. By
providing the skills to utilise the Internet and
participating in the evolving Global Village,
learners are able to further extend their horizons,
involving themselves in the diversity of a much
greater community. The development of a balanced
personality requires involvement in other spheres of
College life, therefore, participation in sport,
cultural activities, associations and clubs provide
learners with opportunities for leadership and
character development, establishing valid standards
and social codes.
We promote personal growth by raising levels of
awareness and developing involved citizens who will
be well-prepared for life, able to think, care and
listen with the courage of their convictions, to
take action and to adapt, when necessary, to life's
changing circumstances, thereby living meaningful
and fulfilled lives.
Parklands has a tradition of holding high
expectations for its learners and trusting in their
ability and willingness to stretch to meet these
goals. The College values its learners and, in
return, expects them to understand and appreciate
the privilege of knowledge
Christopher Robin
Pre-Primary
As our little learners
embark on their journey through education,
Christopher Robin Pre-Primary provides an
environment that enables the learner to develop
lasting impressions that will enhance their positive
attitude to life-long learning. The classrooms are
alive with the excited chatter of the children as
they develop their skills and expand their minds.
Their days are filled with creativity, music,
discussion and play while exploring the how's and
why's of space, road safety, seasons, stranger
danger and much, much more! Our weekly themes are
highlighted with shows, outings and guest speakers.
In addition to our fun-filled days, each little
person is enriched with drama, information
technology, violin, recorder, international
languages, dance and sport.
On entry into formal education, our free-thinking,
confident and independent little people are assured
success.
Parklands College
Preparatory (Grade 1 - 6)
'Transforming the
classroom from a one way system of information
dissemination to a village approach of information
gathering and sharing is critical to empowering
pupils. It requires pupils to generate ideas, take
ownership of their learning, respect the opinions of
others, learn to act responsibly and believe that
they can make a difference in their own lives and
the lives of others.'
'Transforming Power' by Seth Kreisberg
Parklands College
Secondary
"What greater gift can
a parent give a child than a really top class
education? Here, within a community of caring,
professional educators, each learner's needs are
nurtured. Encouragement to give of their best is
promoted in all aspects of teaching in order to
ensure success and personal fulfilment. Learners
write the IEB GET Certificate in Grade 9 and the IEB
FET Matriculation Certificate in Grade 12. This
examination is realistic and in keeping with
international standards. The IEB matriculation
provides a sound foundation for further studies. Our
balanced approach to education ensures that learners
have every opportunity to participate in our sport
and cultural programmes. Each learner is encouraged
to participate in Campus life, whether it be
involvement in a cultural activity or a sporting
code.
The world requires citizens who are comfortable
within a rapidly changing environment and to this
end, the acquisition of technology skills is a high
priority."
