HISTORY AND LOCATION
Founded in
1989 by respected academics Deane Yates and Steyn Krige,
Summit College epitomizes the values and ideals of
honour, integrity and inclusion which are the tenets of
our society. Within this framework the goal is always to
ensure that the children who we educate extend
themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of
achieving. This is made possible through a very
comprehensive monitoring system, and every effort is
made to ensure that no child goes unnoticed. We also
offer small classes and individuals are encouraged to
develop themselves within the parameters of a sound
academic and disciplinary philosophy. The campus
incorporates Reception Grade, Preparatory and High
School on a 130-acre country estate located between
Fourways and Kyalami in Gauteng.
PREPARATORY SCHOOL
In
Preparatory School children are welcomed into a warm and
nurturing environment where they are encouraged to value
their own individuality and the rights of others. Each
child’s unique potential is developed whilst small
classes and open spaces provide many hands-on, tactile
experiences for children with different learning
profiles. Learning and identifying true leadership
qualities is an integral part of our curriculum. Parents
are respected and encouraged to be partners in their
children’s education.
SUPPORT CENTRE (Grades R – 4)
Our Support
Centre is a new section of the Preparatory School. In
addition to our full-time Remedial Therapist, the
service of a Psychologist as well as Occupational
Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are available.
Each child is assigned to a mainstream class in order to
participate in such activities as Music, Physical
Education and Computers, as well as all other school
excursions.
HIGH SCHOOL
In High
School the choice of subjects offered for the
Independent Examination Board Senior Certificate is
relevant and challenging whilst a professional and
motivated staff ensure an increasingly high percentage
of university exemptions. Summit College offers a unique
academic and social experience which produces confident,
balanced young men and women. Here they will be prepared
for further education and employment, and to become
responsible members of a democratic, multicultural
society.
BOARDING (Grades 8 -12)
In the
boarding environment we try to create a home away from
home situation where we strive to promote the qualities
of independence and responsibility. Boarders learn to
live and work with peers from different backgrounds,
cultures and religions, standing them in good stead for
communication and future relationships. Supervised
evening prep sessions from Monday to Thursday provide
students with an environment which is conducive to
developing their academic potential.
