Mulbarton Remedial School

Remedial School

Mulbarton Remedial School was opened in 2004 at the request of 16 parents who struggled to find a suitable remedial school in the South of Johannesburg for their children. Since then, the school has grown to 112 children from grades 1 to 7. A major part of the school's ongoing success are the dedicated, caring teachers and teachers' assistants who nurture, believe in and educate every child to be the very best they can be despite challenges the child may face.

Classes are small, having between eight and 13 learners, to enable remediation to take place during lessons. Learners receive individual attention during class time so that they are able to manage the work. As a result, many of the children are able to re-enter mainstream education where they continue to do well. Other children move to remedial, technical or vocational high schools, depending on what type of school would best meet their particular needs. Mulbarton Remedial has developed many learners who have gone on to become leaders at their new schools. Some of the school's oldest learners are currently attending university, college or are already in the workplace, where again they are successful in their chosen field. One of the most amazing aspects about Mulbarton Remedial is how many of its past learners and parents still keep in touch with the school.
